Perlesmith RV Lockable TV Wall Mount - Must have

Perlesmith RV Lockable TV Wall Mount - Must have

One of the few items that made it into the van from our stick and brick home was our Acer LED Monitor. We use this monitor as an extra screen during work hours and then we’ll cast on it at night when we’re in the mood to veg and watch a movie or series. When looking at mounting options for the monitor, we wanted a solution that would give us multiple viewing angles, a slim design, and a locking mechanism to keep the monitor in place while driving. There are many options on the market, but we chose the Perlesmith RV Lockable TV Wall Mount for the following reasons.

Mount locked against the wall

Mount locked against the wall

Firstly, the Perlesmith Wall Mount can support tv/monitors up to 43” and weighing up to 77lbs! Our monitor isn’t anywhere near that heavy, but we did make a custom frame for it and the mount supports it with ease. The articulating mount has a truly impressive range of motion that allows you to tilt, swivel, and rotate your monitor for optimal viewing from anywhere in your build. The stylish universal mount is really lightweight considering it’s made from painted steel and we appreciated that all mounting hardware and cable-ties were included. Lastly, the mount has a mechanism that locks your monitor against the wall during travel. To release the monitor, tug the cord that dangles under it.

Why we love it: It performs exactly like we hoped it would. We get great viewing angles for Jess’s spreadsheets from the table during the day and John’s obscure horror movies from the bed at night. The locking mechanism works well and makes us feel that the monitor isn’t going anywhere when we have to stop or turn quickly. Also, the mount is discrete and well made. The price is very reasonable for the quality.

Things to keep in mind: We found cable management to be tricky. Depending on the type and location of your cables, you may have to be clever about how you organize them so they don’t interfere with the locking mechanism. The picture below shows V2.0 of our cable management strategy and there is still room for improvement (We have an HDMI audio splitter, Chromecast, Bose Link Mini, and monitor power brick all stashed on the back of the monitor, however…) Also, the joints at each arm are really tight when you pull the Perlesmith Wall Mount out of the box. We found that loosening the bolts a 1/4 to 1/2 turn made the articulating action much easier. Our monitor is mounted on the passenger side of the van, but we tend to sit on the driver’s side when working. We added an HDMI outlet so that we could keep our aisle clear of cords during work hours.

The take away: We’re super happy with this product. It’s great for movie nights but also keeps our cabin orderly and maximizes space when it’s locked against the wall. The price is a great value for the quality. Even though we didn’t need it, Perlesmith touts their quality customer service as an additional perk. We would buy this mount again.
