About DwnShifters

In 2018 - maybe on a beach in Naxos, Greece - Jess and John decided that a paradigm shift in their lives was needed. Instead of working 48 weeks a year to do the things they loved for 4 weeks, they wanted a lifestyle that allowed them to do the things they loved all year round. From that conversation, DwnShifters was born and a year later they moved into a 2019 Ford Transit they converted themselves.

🏳️‍🌈Jess is an operations guru that specializes in taking small, scrappy start-ups and turns them into lean, mean, billing machines. They’re passionate about LGBTQ+ and gender issues and gets way too excited about rocks. Their favorite thing about living in a converted van is that you can park in front of a bar and then stumble out of said bar hours later and pass-out, ensuring that no one has to drive drunk.

🍍John Thomas is an architectural and product designer that makes things and teaches others to design and make things too. He’s a tinkerer and project starter and occasional project completer. He loves all things outdoors that don’t involve running. John’s favorite thing about living in a converted van is that he is wearing a lot more shorts and sweatpants then he did in his former life as a Fablab Director, design professional, and academic.
