Camp Chef Everest - Must Have
Chances are, you’re going to get hungry when galavanting around the world in your camper and we thought we might too. In order to combat the risk of hunger, we opted to buy a Camp Chef Everest camp stove to help ward off the munchies. The Camp Chef is a portable propane gas stove that will make a chef out of even the least culinary inclined.
The Camp Chef Everest has two 20,000 BTU burners for a total of 40,000 BTU!. This is a serious upgrade over a Coleman stove that has two 10,000 BTU burners. Water boils much faster and food can be fried or given a really nice crispy crust at these temperatures in minutes. Each burner has its own controls, which allows you to get creative with the meal’s menu. The Piezo igniter allows you to ignite one or both burners without the aid of matches or a lighter. When you’re done cooking, the grill has a stainless steel drip pan that makes clean up super easy. The stove is 13.5" L x 23.5" W x 4" H and weighs 12 lbs. It’s a great size for using a pan, griddle, or skillet at the same time.
Why we love it: The Camp Chef Everest makes us feel like we are cooking on our old gas range back home. The temperature dials are responsive which enables us to easily control the temperature of our dishes. The size of the grill is big, without feeling like we’re carrying around a home appliance. The lid and side windscreens are effective in blocking the elements when the burners are on. We’ve cooked on the Camp Chef Everest in some pretty inclement weather, and the burners have yet to blow out on us. And the BTU’s!!! So many BTU’s for fast water boiling and hot, hot food! The kitchen in our van is all-electric, but we love having a propane option for days that aren’t sunny and we’re trying to save electricity. It also allows us to toast bread and other options over the open flame.
Things to keep in mind: The unit is pretty sizable, so you’ll want to make sure you have a good place to store the unit. We’re happy with the designated drawer we made for our stove, but you’ll want to design a solution that works well for you. The Piezo ignition isn’t a sure-fire ignition strategy every time. Occasionally we have to press the button a number of times before it lights. We are using 16 oz. canisters for our stove. You’ll always want to have an extra on hand, as 20,000 BTUs can burn through pretty quickly. We generally use a canister every two weeks or so, but we don’t use it every day.
The take away: We are absolutely thrilled with the quality of our Camp Chef Everest 2 burner stove. The high BTU output gives us limitless cooking options to create a variety of meals. The size of the nickel-coated steel cooking grate is strong and gives us enough room to use a number of pots and pans. The stove is easy to clean and has kept up its brand new look after having used it for nearly 7 months on the road!
